BR1 (1984 Locri) lives and works in Turin. In 2009 he graduated in Islamic Law from the University of Turin Law School. His work is primarily based on ephemeral actions in the urban context, almost always realized in a spontaneous and off-limits way. BR1 has been recently invited to various international public art festivals and adbusting actions, including “Street art doping”, Warsaw (2012) and “Brandalism”, London England (2013). Among his latest solo shows and collectives, it is worth remembering “Integration/disintegration”, Open Walls Gallery, Berlin Germany (2013); “Women between”, Fondazione FARM Cultural Park, Favara Italy (2013); “Public Arena”, Associazione Barriera, Torino Italy (2013); “From the city to the World”, Newton Art Center, Boston USA (2012).

Through specific interventions in the urban space, mainly realized with posters and installations, the Italian artist BR1 criticizes the mass effect of the commercial advertising over the identity of women and migrants from the Mediterranean area. His social engagement develops through the paradoxical combination of evocative Western and Middle-eastern cultural symbols. A deep attention has been focused on the Islamic veil, considered as division between the two cultures.
